  7. Residents Support 2019-20 School...

On Tuesday, May 21, residents of the Averill Park Central School District supported a $59.6 million budget for the 2019-20 school year by a vote of 680 (yes) to 187 (no), as well as a bus purchase proposition.

The budget of $59,665,424 calls for an increase of $837,309 from the 2018-19 school year and a tax levy increase of 2.59 percent, which is under the tax cap.

The approval of the bus proposition, by a 681 (yes) to 184 (no) vote, allows the district to purchase eight (8) new school buses and one (1) Kubota compact utility tractor as part of the district’s long-term bus replacement plan. The district is eligible to receive approximately 70 percent reimbursement from the state on the purchase of these buses.

“Thank you to the Averill Park CSD residents who came out to vote for the 2019-20 school budget. This budget will allow us to continue to fulfill our mission of meeting the needs of and providing opportunities for every student every day,” Superintendent Dr. James Franchini said.

Averill Park residents also voted for three open seats on the Board of Education. Elected to the Board is Peter Schaefer with 670 votes, Meghan McGarry with 557 and Samantha Hicks with 529. Laura Broderick also ran and finished with 456 votes.
