  7. Principal Messia Honored as...

On June 13, Averill Park Central School District Middle School Principal, Rob Messia, was presented with the Questar III BOCES School Library System Administrator of the Year Award.

“I am deeply humbled by this recognition. This award is a reflection on the commitment of all teachers here to support a culture of literacy among adolescents in our community,” Messia said.

This award is given to an administrator who gives outstanding support to the school library program and, in turn, supports the students we serve.

“Libraries are such an important part of schools. At Algonquin we are fortunate to have a library that serves all of our students with a variety of resources and programs,” said Messia, who has been principal for eight years. “From our One School, One Book program, to the after school book clubs, to the 3-D printer, to the Chromebook program, our library connects students to 21st century learning activities and makes our school a better place each day.

“Any success we have had here with our library at Algonquin is because of the hard work of our dedicated library staff, led by Rebecca Ekstrom.”

Congratulations Mr. Messia and thank you for all that you do!
