  7. Transportation Department Receives Inspection...

The mechanics at Averill Park Central School District are doing their best to keep all students who ride one of the fleet’s 75 school buses safe.

Recently, the New York State Department of Transportation released its Bus Inspection System Operator Profile and notified APCSD of its 100-percent pass rate.

“Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated staff that make up our transportation department, Averill Park CSD is meeting the needs of all students who use our bus system. Safety is our top priority for our students, both on campus and in our communities. We are very proud of this accomplishment and the much-deserved recognition for our extremely hard working and dedicated transportation department,” Averill Park CSD Superintendent Dr. James Franchini said.

The Department of Transportation inspects school buses twice per year and releases an annual review with its findings, which included just one minor defect that did not affect the passing grade of the vehicle. The current state-wide average for passing vehicles is 95.5 percent, placing Averill Park well above the line with its perfect mark.

“We congratulate those operators who have achieved the goal of a 90 percent or greater pass rate,” NYSDOT stated in a release. “Your commendable performance indicates a strong dedication to safety and a commitment to sound maintenance standards and practices.”

Mark Premo is Averill Park’s Transportation Supervisor. Mechanics include Michael Middleton, Brett Lesson, Martin Gibbons and Keith McFarland.
