8 hours per day, 12 months per year
Currently located in the Maintenance Dept.

Salary: CSEA Step 3 ($14.45 per hour)

Qualifications: -Eligibility from Civil Service Account Clerk list,
If no list exists, appointment must meet civil service
requirements for the Account Clerk title.
-Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with the public
-Must have experience with data entry and management
– Must have knowledge of various computer software including – Word, Access, Excel.
-Must be self motivated and willing to learn

ACCOUNT CLERK

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is clerical work involving responsibility for performance of standard account-keeping practices in maintaining and checking financial accounts and records, including keyboarding. The incumbent works under direct supervision on routine assignments which are done in accordance with defined procedures; detailed instructions are provided for new or unusual assignments. The work is reviewed by observation, cross-checks, or by the immediate supervisor and by other steps in the account-keeping process.
An Account Clerk also does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Reviews a variety of documents such as claim forms, vouchers, bills and
purchase orders to determine eligibility for payment or to verify accuracy of
payment made, according to defined procedures and policies;
Verifies calculations and codes on documents;
Posts figures to appropriate accounts either manually or through a computer,
verifying data entered;
Reconciles entries, both debits and credits;
Prepares simple financial or statistical reports from data entered, including
status of accounts, current balances, cash received or paid;
Produces data needed for State and Federal reimbursement claims;
Keys forms, form letters, transcripts, invoices, vouchers, records, payrolls,
reports, letters and memoranda;
Receives cash payments and issues receipts;
Prepares checks for disbursement, deposits funds into appropriate accounts,
reconciles balances and posts balances to appropriate ledgers;
Makes bank deposits as necessary;
Contacts clients and vendors to obtain additional information as necessary;
Provides routine information orally or in writing in response to inquires on
financial records;
Files and maintains records related to processing of payrolls, invoices,
vouchers, bills and correspondence;
Receives, balances and audits simple payroll time records;
Makes computations as necessary;
Operates calculator, computer terminal, printer and other related office
equipment;
Resolves payroll situations by consulting department or agency liaison;
Verifies unemployment insurance claims, retirement forms and employment;
Determines benefits as they impact payroll.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Working knowledge of methods used in maintaining financial records and reports; working knowledge of office terminology, practices and procedures; working knowledge of business arithmetic; ability to make arithmetic computations involving fractions, decimals and percentages; ability to perform prolonged fine-finger movement on a keyboard at a predetermined rate of speed and accuracy; ability to write legibly; ability to organize and maintain records and files; ability to understand and interpret oral and written instructions; ability to perform detailed work involving visual effort and strain.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping.
