New vegetables have been introduced to students this year and Poestenkill Elementary is having some fun this fall!
New to PES are local peppers, local cucumbers, sweet potatoes, black beans, hummus, cinnamon roasted chickpeas, zucchini, broccoli, peas and cauliflower.
The PES kitchen has adopted the slogan of “the leaves are changing, and so can you! I challenge you to try something new!”
With this, students have had the opportunity to try a new fruit or vegetable and tell Miss Jenn or Mrs. Radigan if they liked it. They each got an “Official Taste Tester” sticker and their name added to a Leaf hanging in the Kitchen area. Every time a student tried something new, their name was added, resulting in many children having their name featured several times over!
At the end of the month, all the names were tallied and entered into a raffle, where the winner received a free snack for a week. The children genuinely enjoyed the friendly competition, and many enjoyed their adventure in nutrition!
