  7. Coronavirus Update From Superintendent...

The following is a message from Averill Park CSD Superintendent Dr. James Franchini:

At this time, we are planning on having school on Monday.  This decision is based on guidelines from the CDC and guidance from the Rensselaer County Department of Health. It is important to note that, as of this writing, there are no confirmed cases in Rensselaer County. That said, this situation is obviously extremely fluid and is constantly evolving.

As a result. we are continuing to take necessary precautions, including, but not limited to, disinfecting buildings over the weekend, providing staff members with disinfecting solution for their use during the day, limiting access to our buildings, and canceling trips outside of our county.

We are also making preparations in the event that we either have to, or decide to, close school for a long period of time.  These preparations include getting approval from the State Education Department to provide meals to our students who need them and providing some form of instruction to our students.

I would also like to thank our faculty, staff, and administration for their commitment to our students during this unprecedented time.  I am aware of so many examples of individuals going above and beyond to help keep our students healthy, to maintain normalcy during a difficult time, and to proactively problem solve around issues for which we do not necessarily have answers.  Thank you to everyone who has lived our mission of striving to meet the needs of every student, every day.

I also would like to thank our community for their patience, understanding, and support.  I know that this virus has impacted families in a multitude of ways and has caused angst and stress.  Thank you for working with the school community as we strive to do what is best for your children.

Please continue to look for updates from the District as the situation develops.
