  7. Governor’s Announcement on Fall...

Today, Governor Cuomo announced that students participating in lower-risk, school-sponsored athletics throughout New York State can begin practicing and playing games on September 21.

These lower-risk sports include tennis, soccer, cross-country, golf and swimming for the fall season. Higher-risk athletics, including football and volleyball in the fall, may also begin practicing on September 21, but may not play games until a later date.

In addition, schools must limit capacity at indoor sporting events to 50 percent occupancy and spectators to no more than two per player.

Please note that the New York State Public High School Athletic Association and regional athletic section offices will be putting together guidance in the coming days. Once that guidance is released, the Averill Park CSD Athletic Department will move forward with developing plans for the upcoming fall season. We will continue to update the community with any new information as it becomes available.
