  7. Positive COVID-19 Case at...

The Averill Park Central School District has been informed of a positive test result for COVID-19 for a student who attends the high school.

The District is working closely with the Rensselaer County Department of Health, which is taking the lead role in the situation and has identified 52 students, five teachers and two staff members as contacts who will need to be quarantined for 14 days. The DOH will be making initial contact with those who are mandated to be quarantined by the end of the day. In the event you are contacted by a representative of the County DOH, we encourage you to offer your complete cooperation.

Those individuals who are identified as contacts will need DOH clearance to return to in-person learning and the District will follow up daily to assist the DOH in the contact tracing process.

The District will be implementing the “deep cleaning/disinfection” of any potentially impacted area as per NYS DOH and CDC guidelines.

While we fully understand you would like additional details, we are not permitted by privacy laws to identify the student involved. We have provided as much information as possible. Anyone with questions and/or who needs to report a COVID-19 related health issue should contact the district’s COVID-19 Resource Person via the dedicated email address (COVIDreporting@apcsd.org).

In these challenging times, rest assured that the District’s priority is protecting the health, welfare, and safety of students and staff while complying with any government orders and guidance related to the opening of schools.
