  7. K-12 Transitioning To Virtual...

Averill Park CSD Community,

Today we received confirmation of a new positive case of the COVID-19 virus in our school district involving a staff member at West Sand Lake Elementary School.

As we continue to see positive cases rise throughout our community, we have made the decision to transition to full remote learning for all students in grades K-12 beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 17, until Monday, Nov. 30.

This decision was not made lightly. Over the past week, we have seen a spike in positive cases both in our school district and throughout our region and feel that this is a necessary action at this time.

During the six instructional days left leading up to the Thanksgiving recess, the maintenance department will be conducting a deep cleaning and disinfecting of all impacted spaces prior to classes resuming. Please note that tomorrow (Nov. 17) will remain a half-day of instruction for students in K-8 for parent-teacher conferences.

The District will be offering food service for all students who are in need and is looking into childcare options. More information will follow.

We understand that this is a significant change for our students, staff members and families. It is important now more than ever for everyone to do their part to slow the spread of the virus in the community by wearing masks, maintaining 6 feet of distance, avoiding large gatherings and staying home when sick.
