Algonquin Middle School held its annual Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest sponsored by the Poestenkill VFW.

This year’s theme was “What is Patriotism to Me?” Placing first in the competition was Carly Hunter, who won a $100 prize. Declan Flanigan ($75) took second place and Lillian Wohlleber ($50) finished in third place. Winners have been notified and their awards and certificates will be mailed to them.

Carly advances to the District stage for judging, which will conclude on December 15.

The Patriot’s Pen contest is conducted nationwide, giving students an opportunity to create essays that express their views on a topic which changes each year.

Congratulations to this year’s winners and thank you to the Poestenkill VFW for sponsoring this contest.
