  7. Matt Dangler Gets Big...

One of the top gymnasts in the state, APHS freshman Matt Dangler had the entire gymnastics season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also lost the ability to train since this takes place inside in a non-ventilated gym.

Instead of giving up on being active, Matt channeled his competitive energy and was accepted onto the Mount Snow FreeSki Team – the top ski team in the Northeast – largely based on his gymnastics background. Every Saturday and Sunday throughout the winter, Matt commuted to Carinthia Parks in West Dover, Vermont to practice.

FreeSkiing is a combination of Freestyle, Moguls and Slope Style, including jumps and tricks. Matt learned, and perfected, many new jumps in a short period of time and earned one of only two awards given out by Mount Snow for the season, the Big Air award.

After a full season on the slopes, Matt is transitioning full time from gymnastics to skiing. Congratulations on a great season Matt! Check out a video here.
