  7. After 33 Years, Mary...

Mary Anne Valentine, a guidance counselor at Algonquin Middle School, has been working in the Averill Park Central School District for nearly 33 years and will be retiring this month.

She began her career at AP in 1989, working in K-5 before transitioning to AMS in 1998.

“After earning my bachelor’s degree, I went directly into a School Counseling Master’s program,” she said. “I knew I wanted to help children and schools are the best place to do that.”

Over the years, Mrs. Valentine has made many great memories. Among her favorites are the funny things that kids sometimes innocently say. She’ll miss seeing colleagues who have become friends, on a regular basis.

When asked about her places for retirement, Mrs. Valentine said, “spending more time with my adorable grandchildren, hiking, kayaking and traveling.”
