  7. Flooding Update

Like many of its community members, the Averill Park Central School District has begun to assess the damage caused by the flooding that occurred on July 14, 2021.

The District has been in contact with its insurance agent and outside vendors to repair flooring and replace furniture. Work is expected to be completed by the start of the upcoming school year.

“The damage was overwhelming, but it could have been a lot worse,” Superintendent Dr. James Franchini said. “Thanks to a very quick response from our buildings and grounds crews, we were able to mitigate the damage. Our goal is to open the 2021-22 school year with as few inconveniences to our students and staff as possible. Our thoughts remain with our community members who have endured hardships during this time.”

The hardest hit sections of the high school include the library, guidance suite, main offices, the courtyard, and classrooms in the Social Studies wing. At Algonquin Middle School, one of the gymnasiums and the 8th Grade wing suffered the most damage.
