  7. COVID-19 Reminder

Recently, we have seen an increase in positive cases of the COVID-19 virus throughout the country and across Rensselaer County, including eight positive cases at APCSD in the past two days. These cases have resulted in a number of quarantined students, especially at the elementary level where a vaccine is not yet available.

It is critical for us to work together to implement our layered mitigation strategies, including staying home / keeping your child home if you/they are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19, wearing masks appropriately, maintaining physical distance, and avoiding large gatherings and unnecessary travel. We stress staying home when you are sick or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19. Staying home when sick will prevent unnecessary cases of COVID-19, and potential quarantines that could greatly affect our ability to keep our buildings open.

Please know that we understand that having your child, or yourself, quarantined is a hardship and we take contact tracing very seriously.

As a reminder, the following are symptoms of COVID-19 and you and/or your child should not come to school if you are experiencing these:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle of body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
