Alex Gaboury, class of 2022, received an Honorable Mention in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition for her piece titled “The Conversation.” This innovative and thought-provoking piece depicts a double self-portrait through photo-collage as its foundation. It was then layered with various dry and wet media, including a layer of Alex’s own handwriting. This work raises interesting questions while celebrating Alex’s love of literature and writing.
More than 300,000 students from all over the country submit work annually to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Less than one percent of entrants are recognized with an award.
Since 1923 the Scholastic Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists when they were teenagers. The Scholastics committee looks for work that exemplifies the Awards’ core values: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of personal voice or vision. Congratulations Alex!
