WELLNESS DAY SLEEP PRESENTATION – FAMILY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Today, as part of our Warrior Wellness Day, Mr. Chris Reddy, APHS science teacher, presented a dynamic assembly to all students on the importance of sleep. We would like to encourage families to ask your child about the presentation. Below are some questions to help facilitate that discussion:

  • What does science say about how many hours of sleep do teenagers need to get each night?
  • How is the human brain similar to a Nascar stock car?
  • Why was Randy Gardner’s Guiness Book Record and why is it not able to be broken?

We hope that your child enjoyed the wellness activities they selected and benefited from Mr. Reddy’s presentation. Thank you!

KIDS HEART CHALLENGE

Tomorrow March 10th, the Physical Education department will hold their annual “Kids Heart Challenge” through the American Heart Association. The event will take place after school from 2:30-5 pm. Students can participate in Jump Rope and Basketball activities, as well as the 3rd Annual “Algonquin Ninja Warrior” competition. If you plan to attend the event, please hand in a signed Kids Heart Challenge permission slip form that was handed out in class.

For those who won’t be able to attend, but would still like to help, we ask that you register your son or daughter at www.heart.org/khc . By getting 50% of our students just registered we will be able to earn extra money towards our Physical Education department program along with extra recess equipment. Registering is free and does not obligate you to come to the event or raise any money. If you or your son or daughter has any questions please email Emily Crowley at crowleye@apcsd.org.

Thank you,
Algonquin Physical Education Department

FROM THE LIBRARY

News from the Poestenkill Public Library:

New Teen Advisory Group (TAG)
We are looking for teens to join our newly formed Teen Advisory Group. The mission of TAG is to expand and promote young adult services at Poestenkill Library through teen engagement, cooperation, and partnership.
Encourage your teens to let their voice be heard. We want to be a community hub and a popular destination for young adults. We’re ready to listen and take real advice on how to make that happen. Who knows what teens like and want more than actual teens?
As a member of TAG, teens will work with their peers and the library director to:
Provide input on how to create and maintain a cool and functional area for teens in the library
Recommend books, movies, graphic novels and other materials for the library to add to the collection
Propose young adult programs and services of interest to the local teen community
Plan and facilitate teen lead programs and events at the library
If you would like to learn more about TAG, or are interested in joining the group, please contact Donna Riley at 518-283-3721 or by email at Director@Poestenkilllibrary.org.
