  7. Message From Superintendent Franchini...

APCSD Community,

Yesterday’s school shooting at an elementary school in Texas is heartbreaking and I share in the sadness our community members are currently experiencing in processing this event.

Please know that the Averill Park Central School District puts the safety and well-being of its students and staff at the forefront of every decision made. Over the past few years, the District has implemented and improved upon many safety-related practices. This includes, but is not limited to, strengthening the relationships with local and state law enforcement agencies; adding a full-time School Resource Officer; investing in resources to improve response and notification times in the event of an emergency; practicing meaningful lockdown drills; adding intruder hardware to common areas; establishing a District Safety Coordinator; and training staff so they are prepared to respond to an emergency.

Processing the news of any mass shooting is difficult for both adults and children. Our students live in a world that is vastly different from the one we grew up in, and today there are many tools and resources available to assist them during a crisis. APCSD has an amazing support staff, and our school counselors, teachers, and other adults are available to assist students of all ages. As always, remember that we strongly support the mantra of if you see something, say something.

Thank you for your continued support. Please reach out to your child’s principal or counselor if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Dr. James Franchini
Superintendent of Schools
