  7. Retirements: Michael Strich

As Michael Strich closes out his 19th year in the Averill Park Central School District, he has his sites set on retirement at the end of June. Now an English teacher at Averill Park High School, Mr. Strich initially gravitated toward a career in education because he wanted to help people in some way.

“My mother had been a teacher, so that also probably had an influence on me,” he said.

Mr. Strich has accumulated many memories over the years, noting that some of his best memories are from the “zany situations that I found myself in within the classroom.”

“I will most miss working with students, and seeing learning take place right before my eyes,” he said.

Mr. Strich plans to spend more time at his Adirondack cabin, and working on his musical interests as he plays electric bass in a few groups outside of school. He also plans on finally getting to those house projects that he has been putting off, and he may sleep a bit more, as well.
