APO UPDATE

Hello everyone! Updates from your APO here!

All pie orders for our WINDY HILL FUNDRAISER are due on Thursday, Nov. 10! Here is the Google form! Mark your calendars that the pick up day is Tuesday, Nov 22nd from dismissal until 6pm.

Send payment via Venmo with “pie sale” in the memo OR via cash/check – send to school with your child in an envelope marked “PIE SALE” and the name on the order. Checks should be made payable to Algonquin APO

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Halloween Spooktacular – the kids and volunteers had a great time!!!

On Tuesday, Nov. 29 students can stay after school in the Algonquin cafeteria and get picked up by 4:30 or take the late bus home at 4pm. Cost is $10.00 to make a holiday craft, 2 ornaments, help decorate the school, enjoy pizza, cookies and milk/cocoa and some Christmas music with friends.  This event is open to the first 100 students who sign up.

Please bring your $10.00 dollars to the main office in an envelope marked “Holiday Happenings” and be sure to include the student’s name and homeroom as well. Students must pre-pay and cannot sign up at the door.

UPCOMING THEME DAYS

Thursday, November 10 – Red, White and Blue Theme Day – We will honor veterans by encouraging students and staff to wear red, white and blue on Thursday.  

Wednesday, November 16 – Blue and Gold – Warrior Wednesday – Each Warrior Wednesday we encourage students and staff to wear Blue and Gold.

WARRIOR WEDNESDAY (11/16) THEME: SOCIAL AWARENESS

This competency focuses on developing the ability to understand the perspectives of and empathize with others, including those from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and contexts. Social awareness skills include the ability to:

  • Take others’ perspectives

  • Recognize strengths in others

  • Demonstrate empathy and compassion

  • Understand and express gratitude

  • Identify diverse social norms, including unjust ones

  • Recognize situational demands and opportunities

  • Understand the influences of organizations and systems on behavior

PARENT CONFERENCE HALF DAY – TUES 11/15

Tuesday, November 15 will be a half day for students due to parent conferences.  AMS will dismiss at 10:55am.  Thank you.

LOST AND FOUND

As the pictures below show, our Lost and Found Tables are overflowing with materials from the first marking period.  If you see an item that belongs to your child, please have them stop by the Lost and Found Table just off of the Main Foyer in the Music Hallway to claim their items.  We plan to have any remaining items donated to a local charity at the end of the day on November 10.

GO HOME EARLY DRILL – 11/10

The NYS required “Go Home Early” Drill will take place on Thursday, November 10th.  Students will be dismissed at 2:10 on November 10.

NO LATE BUSES OR CARES PROGRAM ON THURSDAY 11/10  

There will be no late bus service on Thursday, November 10.  

Also, the CARES Program will not run on that date.

GRADE 8 FAMILIES: TECHVALLEY HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS

TechValley High School has begun its admissions process for next school year.  

More information can be found on their Admissions Website.  

Averill Park plans to offer two seats to the TechValley program next year.  

Please note that interested students must attend an information session provided by TechValley in order to be considered for the admissions lottery.  

All applications are due to the AMS Counseling Center by Friday, February 17.

Coding Club

Coding Club will meet on Wednesday, November 16th from second dismissal until 3:20.  Your child can sign up in the library or can email Mrs. Ekstrom to let her know they’re coming.  Your child needs to have a ride at 3:20 or take the late bus home at 4:15.  Email Mrs. Ekstrom with any questions: ekstromr@apcsd.org

Tween Book Club: Our next Tween Book Club meeting will be held Thursday, Nov 3 at 5:30 PM. They will be discussing the book “Dragonsinger” by Anne McCaffrey, creating a fun dragon craft and enjoying snacks! All tweens (ages 10-12) are welcome!
