Congratulations to junior David Morelli, who spent December 1-4 in Rochester at the NYSSMA Conference All-State Festival, as part of the Symphonic Band.
To achieve this honor, David had to audition at the spring NYSSMA Festival on an All-State level solo (professional level). Few students are selected for this honor, as it is reserved for the highest achieving student musicians throughout the state.
As part of the rehearsal process, the band was able to livestream with Dr. O’Neal Douglass, whose work “Harriet” was one of three works performed on the culminating concert Sunday morning (other works included “Elegy for a Young American” by Ronald Lo Presti and “Ankrovag Fanfare” by Bruce Yurko). Beyond providing some feedback to the students about their performance, he also provided insight regarding the composition process and answered questions from the students. A truly invaluable experience for those students involved.
