HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR ASSEMBLY – 2/14/23

On Tuesday, February 14, Algonquin Middle School and Averill Park High School will hold a joint virtual assembly with Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan.

Ms. Blumenthal Lazan, who now lives in Long Island, is one of the few remaining survivors of the German Concentration Camps during the period of the Holocaust. She now makes it her mission to speak to as many young people as she can about the themes of hope, optimism, and perseverance; all through the lens of her experiences as a survivor through a very difficult time in world history.

To learn more about Marion, here is a link to her website:  https://www.fourperfectpebbles.com/

On Monday, February 13th, all social studies classes will participate in instruction around the holocaust.  Students will also be able to write a question that they have for Ms. Blumenthal Lazan during their social studies class.

We are looking very much forward to sharing this valuable experience with all of our students.

KIDS HEART CHALLENGE – MARCH 2 – AFTER SCHOOL

On Thursday, March 2, the Physical Education department will hold its annual “Kids Heart Challenge” through the American Heart Association. The event will take place after school from 2:30-5 pm. Students can participate in Jump Rope and Basketball activities, as well as the 4th Annual “Algonquin Ninja Warrior” competition. If you plan to attend the event, please hand in a signed Kids Heart Challenge permission slip form that was handed out in class.

For those who won’t be able to attend, but would still like to help, we ask that you register your son or daughter at www.heart.org/khc. By getting 50% of our students just registered we will be able to earn extra money towards our Physical Education department program along with extra recess equipment. Registering is free and does not obligate you to come to the event or raise any money.  If you or your son or daughter has any questions please email Emily Crowley at crowleye@apcsd.org.

Thank you,

Algonquin Physical Education Department
