WARRIOR WEDNESDAY THEME: SELF-MANAGEMENT

Critical workplace skill research emphasizes the value of self-management skills. Educators point to emotional regulation, focus, attention and task persistence as keys for academic success. Whether for the workplace, school, or home, self-management is critical to our growth.

Additional information about how Averill Park will be addressing this theme and how you can support your child at home can be found here.

GRADE 8 STUDENTS AND FAMILIES:  REWARD ACCESS – FRI 3/24

On Friday, March 24, 2023, grade 8 teachers will host Reward Access, an opportunity for students to participate in activities and games as a reward for their hard work in Quarter 3.  Teachers will be offering board games, arts & crafts activities, phys-ed-style games, and more!

In order to participate, students must be in good academic and behavioral standing.  Any student who is failing more than 2 classes or has received 2 or more referrals during quarter 3 will attend a teacher-supported study hall instead.

We encourage families to check SchoolTool to ensure their student is able to participate in this fun event!

Thank you,

Grade 8 Teachers

KIDS HEART CHALLENGE – MARCH 2 – AFTER SCHOOL

On Thursday, March 2nd the Physical Education department will hold their annual “Kids Heart Challenge” through the American Heart Association.  The event will take place after school from 2:30-5 pm.  Students can participate in Jump Rope and Basketball activities, as well as  the 4th Annual “Algonquin Ninja Warrior” competition.  If you plan to attend the event, please hand in a signed Kids Heart Challenge permission slip form that was handed out in class.

For those who won’t be able to attend, but would still like to help, we ask that you register your son or daughter at www.heart.org/khc .  By getting 50% of our students just registered we will be able to earn extra money towards our Physical Education department program along with extra recess equipment.  Registering is free and does not obligate you to come to the event or raise any money.  If you or your son or daughter has any questions please email Emily Crowley at crowleye@apcsd.org.

Thank you,

Algonquin Physical Education Department
