GRADE 8 MOVING UP CEREMONY

We are excited to announce our Grade 8 Recognition Day Moving Up Assembly will take place on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 8:30am in the AMS Blue Gymnasium. Parents and guardians are invited to attend the assembly and a livestream link will be provided. More information about Grade 8 Recognition Day will be shared as we get closer to the event.

THEME DAYS CONTINUE

The AMS Student Council Theme week continues.

  • Wednesday – Anything But A Backpack Day

    • Must be able to use it all day

    • Must be school appropriate, safe and not breakable

    • Must be able to be transported on your lap on the bus

    • Must be able to put it under your seat during classes

    • When in doubt, ask your parents, teachers or Mr. Messia if it is allowable in advance

    • Don’t take it personally if you’re asked to just use your bookbag if your item doesn’t work in the school environment

  • Thursday – Student and Teacher Swap Day

    • Kids dress like adults!

    • Adults dress like kids!

REMINDER ABOUT STUDENT DRINKS AT AMS

During the school day, students are encouraged to stay hydrated

Water is the only drink that should be brought to classes

Other flavored drinks can be enjoyed during Morning Meeting (until 8:13am) and lunch

We encourage families to not send students with caffeinated drinks to school

In an effort to minimize disruptions water should be in spill proof containers

GRADE 8 NYC TRIP PERMISSION SLIP AND CALL FOR PARENT CHAPERONES 

As you know, on Friday, May 19, Grade 8 students will attend a field trip to New York City!   On Monday, April 3, all students received two important letters about this trip.

All parents & guardians are asked to sign and date this field trip permission slip.  Students should return this signed slip along with payment (if applicable) to their Morning Meeting teachers by Wednesday, April 19.

If there is a financial issue, please email the field trip coordinators: Team 5, Mr. Anderson (andersonc@apcsd.org), or Team 6, Mrs. Gardinier. (gardinierh@apcsd.org).

At this time we are also looking for potential chaperones for our trip.  If you are interested, please complete this call for chaperones slip and return it with your child to their Morning Meeting teacher.

ACTIVE PARENTING OF TEENS AND TWEENS REGISTRATION

The AMS and APHS Student Assistance Program is sponsoring a parent class called “Active Parenting of Teens and Tweens.”  The program will take place online and will meet five times.  Dates: Tue 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23 Time: 6:00-7:30 pm. Please click on this link for more information and to register.

REMINDERS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE 

A reminder for summer physicals! All students entering grade 7 and 9 will need a physical on file which was completed by the student’s primary care physician after 9/1/22.

Fall athletes will need a physical which is less than one year old at the beginning of tryouts.

 All incoming 7th graders must also have received a Meningococcal A  immunization.

SL@MS HYGIENE DRIVE

SL@MS is doing a Hygiene Drive starting next Monday until Thursday, April 6th. The Morning Meeting that collects the most products will be rewarded with an outdoor activity and treat during the last period of the day as a group on a day in spring.

The items collected will be used for our food pantry, and also donated to Doors of Hope in West Sand Lake.

Poestenkill Public Library Will Host a Minecraft Author:

Poestenkill Public Library is very excited to welcome Nick Eliopulos to the library on Wednesday, April 12th!

Nick is the author of three officially licensed Minecraft chapter book series; the Woodsword Chronicles, the Stonesword Saga, and the Zombies! trilogy – book 2 coming soon! He also wrote the Spirit Animals: Book of Shane series, is the co-author of the Adventurer’s Guild trilogy, and has written a handful of Step into Reading Easy Readers.

This program is open to all ages, but Nick’s talk and related character building group activity would be best suited to elementary aged children. Registration is required as space is limited. Lego Club:  Bring your builder to the library to build with our LEGO!  Monday, April 10 from 5:30 to 6:30.  You bring the imagination, we supply the LEGO!

Tween Book Club:  Our next Tween Book Club meeting will be held Saturday, April 22 at 12:30 PM. They will be discussing the graphic novel version of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden.  The meetings include book discussion, a related craft and snacks.  All tweens (ages 10-12) are welcome!
