FROM THE LIBRARY

Yesterday, AMS students in seventh grade met virtually with author James Preller. These students read Bystander, which is a thought-provoking fiction book about bullying and is a 2009 Junior Library Guild Selection. He answered student’s questions about Bystander and about being an author. He had great advice for aspiring young authors as well. You can read his blog at: http://www.jamespreller.com/ Thank you Mr. Preller!

A special summer reading opportunity from Barnes & Noble for grade 6 students:

For 27 years, the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program has celebrated the joy and power of reading, and this year is no different.  As the school year draws to a close, your local Barnes & Noble at Colonie Center would like to share our Summer Reading Journal program with you.  Our program can foster learning and help to keep your child reading through their vacation.

To participate, young readers in grades 1 through 6 fill out the attached Summer Reading Journal.  They list ANY eight books they’ve read and describe their favorite part of each book.  When young readers bring their completed Summer Reading Journal to any Barnes & Noble during the months of July and August, they can redeem it for a FREE Book!   In fact, students aren’t limited to just one Summer Reading Journal.  They can keep filling out and redeeming journals through the end of August!

We hope you will take advantage of this special program!

These e-books are available through the generous support of the Questar III School Library System.

Grade 6 Students Read for Ronald McDonald House Charities:

Some of our 6th grade students had a special ice cream party on Tuesday because they reached a collective goal.  Our Student Council sponsored this special reward for students-thank you!  $1,890.30 was raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Way to go!
