  7. Schedule Portal for 2023–24...

Dear APHS Students, Parents and Guardians,

I hope this email finds you and your family healthy and well!   It’s been a busy summer at the high school, and we are excited to soon see our students and staff back in the building for what we expect will be an amazing year at Averill Park High School.  We are also pleased to share that our instructional schedule for the 2023-2024 school year is where we would expect it to be at this time.

Today, you will find the SchoolTool Portal has been opened so that students and families may view their course schedules for the 2023-2024 school year.

As you review your schedule, please know that our Counseling Team has made every effort to reduce student conflicts, and maximize enrollment in the courses which students most selected.  From a statistical standpoint, I am pleased to report that this year’s schedule yielded the smallest number of student-level course conflicts we have ever experienced.  Of course, a complex schedule of this size will always have conflicts, and some students have needed to, or will still need to, make some choices.  Counselors will continue to work with students on these issues, as they arise.

Please keep in mind that student schedules will not be changed prior to our official Add/Drop period, which will occur between September 13th and September 22nd.  You may request a change of your schedule between now and then, ONLY if one of the following circumstances have occurred:

  • a student has failed a prerequisite course and needs the next course in the sequence,
  • a student went to summer school and no longer needs the assigned course,
  • a student is repeating a course with the same teacher,
  • a clerical error has resulted in two courses being scheduled at the same time,
  • a student would like to enroll in a credit-bearing course in place of a study hall,
  • there are special medical considerations, documented by a physician.

If you have any questions about your schedule, please contact our Counseling Center at (518) 674-7025.

Our Counseling staff will be back to work starting on Tuesday, August 22nd to assist you.

Additionally, the Opening Newsletter for Students and Parents will provide you with all the critical information that you need as we head towards opening.  That will be sent a bit later today, in an email separate from this one.

In the meantime, for our incoming 9th graders and new entrants, please remember that our New Student Orientation Program will occur at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, September 5th.   Our Assistant Principal who supervises 9th grade, Mrs. Mein, will reach out with more information soon.

To everyone else, I am looking forward to an exciting new beginning with each of you as we open the 2023-2024 school year on Thursday, September 7th.  Until then, please stay healthy, and be well.

Sincerely yours,

Heath C. Quiles
Principal
