  7. Important Info Regarding Gov....

Averill Park CSD Community,

On January 16, 2024, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul released School Aid projections for the 2024-25 school year following her Executive Budget presentation.

Included in this information were Foundation Aid projections. Foundation Aid makes up a significant portion of revenue for all school districts. For Averill Park, Foundation Aid was 27.57% of our revenue (State Aid, as a whole, represented 41.51% of our revenue).  The proposed budget allocates $17,738,628 in Foundation Aid to the Averill Park Central School District, which is a reduction of $159,293 from year-to-year.

While many districts received significant increases in Foundation Aid last year, the APCSD saw a marginal increase of 3% in Foundation Aid due to being considered a “Hold Harmless” District in regards to State funding. This small increase was a significant factor in the District’s $1.3 million deficit for the 2023-24 school year.  Receiving less Foundation Aid than last year will have a direct impact on meeting the needs of and providing opportunities for our students.

We take our role as the financial stewards of our community very seriously and, therefore, respectfully request that the State re-examine the proposed budget. The District is reaching out to elected officials to advocate for change. We encourage community members to reach out to elected officials, as well.
