  7. Classes Canceled on May...

Dear families,

Averill Park Central School District has decided to cancel classes on Friday, May 22 to allow teachers to begin cleaning out their classrooms. There will be no instruction and teachers will have no communication with students on this day.

While teachers typically perform end-of-year cleaning in June, it is important that they complete this as soon as possible. Once teachers clear out their classrooms, our Buildings and Grounds crews will be able to begin their summer cleaning routine and we will not have to hire additional staff to complete this task. With the amount of state aid being reduced for the 2020-2021 school year, it is important that we reduce costs wherever possible.

Any student belongings that were left in school buildings prior to the COVID-19 pandemic will be bagged and returned to students. At the elementary level, materials will be distributed through a pick-up process during the week of June 1. At the middle and high school levels, students will be contacted as necessary. More information on the pick-up process will be provided by building principals. Any items that are not picked up will be delivered during the week of June 8 through the transportation department. Details, such as date and time, will be provided at a later date.

More information on collecting school-owned items such as Chromebooks and library books will be communicated at a later date.

We realize the amount of hard work that our students, faculty, support staff and families have put in over the past two months. Enjoy unplugging from school activities on May 22.
