  7. Students Participate in RPI...

Five Averill Park CSD students participated in the 2020 RPI EcoEd program, which focused on climate change, climate justice, environmental issues, and sustainability, with an eye toward possible solutions. This program is designed and staffed by RPI students, under the direction of Dr. Brandon Costelloe-Kuehn.

EcoEd is educationally valuable for both RPI and K-12 students. Its designed to enhance organizational, analytic, writing and oral presentation skills, and incorporate them into understanding complex environmental issues.

The introductory meeting was held in early March to introduce participants and begin research. Weekly online meetings continued through March and April and concluded with the submission of these radio pieces that will be played on WOOC 105.3 in coming weeks.

The participants from Averill Park were: Kevin Cooper (AMS, Grade 8), who researched COVID’s economic & environmental effects; Sam Hart (AMS, Grade 8), who researched COVID’s effects on the environment; Theo Hart (West Sand Lake, Grade 5), who researched eco-friendly fireworks; Isla Multunas (AP, Grade 9), who researched light pollution, and Isabelle Relyea (AP, Grade 9), who researched flooding in Venice.
