  7. AMS Transition Connection –...

Good Morning Grade 5 Families

Thank you for all of your time and attention in our Grade 5 to 6 Transition activities.

This will be our last weekly email Transition Connection message. We will, however, have occasional updates throughout the summer months as we start to learn more about what next year will look like as regulation and guidance from the New York State Department of Education becomes available.

“WARRIORS READ” – AMS SUMMER READING

This year we are adjusting our Summer Reading Program to be more flexible. We are simply encouraging students to read at least one book this summer and challenge them to read as many as possible!

As students complete their reading we are asking that they complete our very simple “Warriors Read” form. Click here for the form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe4NvlXPBR_Gpg1uDD18L-MmblaejDPqdNpMwVDBg3vBTghVA/viewform

Throughout the summer we will do social media shout outs to those students who have been reading the most books. In the fall we will recognize the grade level, Morning Meeting room and the top 10 individual students in each grade level!

We hope that you will encourage your child to keep reading this summer and join in our Warriors Read fun.

ACCESSING FREE E-BOOKS FROM OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY

This video will help explain what kids should read this summer, how to choose a book and where they can find free e-books through their school library, (on Sora), and public libraries, (on Hoopla and Overdrive/Libby).

If you have questions about e-books, please contact Mrs. Ekstrom, our School Librarian at ekstromr@apcsd.org

GRADE 6 SUMMER MATH CALENDAR

Similar to the summer math calendars provided at the elementary level, each AMS grade level math team has developed a set of math calendars to help students stay sharp with their math skills over the summer.

At the end of June we will be mailing copies of the calendars and directions to grade 5 families.

Copies of the calendars are also available online by clicking on this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16F9sy1siig5qg7KTTBlYZ3Ysm-565OlLBHbil8E_3b0/edit

Thank you for your continued support of your child’s math experience.

GRADE 6 SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST

Below is a link to the Grade 6 School Supply List. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CEJFGdKpsdeaOu9Z97homwAwHZmNtE0GFgWh8pmGkIE/edit?usp=sharing

Should your family need any support in being able to obtain these items, please do not hesitate to reach out to the AMS Counseling Center or Main Office.

We are fortunate to have the support of the Sand Lake Kiwanis as well as community members who assist in providing supplies for students in need.

Further, if your family would like to help by providing extra supplies for students we certainly appreciate your support and accept donations throughout the summer months. Thank you!

REMINDER: AMS TRANSITION MATERIALS WEBSITE

We have compiled all of the Grade 6 Transition materials in one handy website.

Please feel free to refer back to this site throughout the summer: https://sites.google.com/apcsd.org/grade6connection/home

I look forward to meeting you all in person but in the meantime I hope that you all have a wonderful start to your summer.

Sincerely,
Rob Messia
