  7. Algonquin News – June...

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT YEAR!

I would like to take a moment to say thank you to our entire school community at the conclusion of this most memorable school year. Our students worked very hard this year both in person at our building and later through distance learning. And our students were successful this year because of the support of the adults in their lives, particularly over the past several months.

We continue to await guidance from the New York State Department of Education and the Governor’s Office for the fall. As we get more information and develop plans for September we will share more information as a school district on how we will be able to meet the needs of students in the coming year.

At the conclusion of the morning announcements each day during the closure we stated: “A school is not just a place.” School is a community. It is all of us, students and adults, working together to learn and grow each day. That certainly has been the case this spring and I know it will continue to be as we move forward.

Remember… We Are Warriors!

YEARBOOK UPDATE

We are still waiting for the AMS Yearbooks to arrive from Lifetouch. The yearbook printing press has been slowed by limitations imposed by the coronavirus. When the yearbooks do arrive we will announce it through an email blast and social media posts so that families can stop by AMS to pick them up at that time. We are sorry for the delay that is beyond our control, we certainly would have liked to have had them here before the end of the school year. Thank you for your understanding.

“WARRIORS READ” – AMS SUMMER READING

This year we are adjusting our Summer Reading Program to be more flexible. We are simply encouraging students to read at least one book this summer and challenge them to read as many as possible!

As students complete their reading we are asking that they complete our very simple “Warriors Read” form. Click here for the form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe4NvlXPBR_Gpg1uDD18L-MmblaejDPqdNpMwVDBg3vBTghVA/viewform

Throughout the summer we will do social media shout outs to those students who have been reading the most books. In the fall we will recognize the grade level, Morning Meeting room and the top 10 individual students in each grade level!

We hope that you will encourage your child to keep reading this summer and join in our Warriors Read fun.

Should your family need any support in being able to obtain these items, please do not hesitate to reach out to the AMS Counseling Center or Main Office.

We are fortunate to have the support of the Sand Lake Kiwanis as well as community members who assist in providing supplies for students in need.

Further, if your family would like to help by providing extra supplies for students we certainly appreciate your support and accept donations throughout the summer months. Thank you!

PLEASE CHARGE YOUR CHROMEBOOK EVERY FEW WEEKS DURING THE SUMMER

All students who are in grades 6-9 and have a school issued chromebook will keep their chromebooks at home over the summer and continue to use them in the fall. Our experience has shown that it is a good idea to make sure that the device is used every couple of weeks and the battery is kept charged. The district technology office is open year-round and available for service if you need it. The district technology office can be reached at 518-674-7080 or tech@apcsd.org. Thank you!

TEXTBOOK AND SCHOOL OWNED MATERIALS TURN IN

School owned material return continues throughout this week. Families are asked to return all school owned materials between 8am and 2pm by Friday, June 19.

These items include:
– Library books
– Textbooks
– Copy of the one school, one book: Posted
– Regents Algebra Graphing Calculators
– Studio Art loaned materials

Please have your child’s items in a plastic bag labeled with their name either inside or on the outside of the bag.

An AMS staff member will be stationed at the front entrance of the school and will collect the items from families.

Please do not get out of your vehicle.

Unfortunately due to traffic volume at the AMS Send Off Parade we will not be able to collect materials from families during the actual parade.

SUMMER ASSIGNMENT PACKETS & GRADE 8 CERTIFICATES

When you drop off your child’s materials, we also have a packet of materials for each AMS student. This envelope includes our summer math calendars, grade 8 Recognition Day Certificates and any other paper materials that we have for your child.

STUDENT ITEMS STILL AT AMS

As a reminder, families of students with materials still at AMS have been contacted and are asked to stop by AMS between 8am and 2pm any school day through Friday, June 19. At this point it is a very limited number of families that still need to pick up items. Materials that remain at AMS will be donated to local charities.

If you are unable to make it to AMS before June 19 and would like us to retain your child’s item, please call the main office at 518-674-7100.

MEDICATION PICK UP

For those students who had medicine administered at school this year, if a parent was unable to pick up the child’s medication on Monday, please contact the nurse to make alternative arrangements. Any medications not picked up by June 19 will be disposed of.
