  7. 2020-2021 Reopening Plan

At its July 28 Board of Education meeting, the Averill Park Central School District presented information regarding the return to school in the fall. The plan for reopening has been submitted to the New York State Education Department (SED) for approval. This document is a “living” document that will undoubtedly be updated as we move forward.

The District has prioritized in-person instruction and meeting all New York State health and safety guidelines released by the Department of Health and the SED.

Currently, the district’s initial plans are focused on two models of instruction for AP students in the upcoming school year:

·  Students in grades K-5 receive in-person instruction every day, while students in grades 6-12 are assigned to in-person and remote learning on an alternating schedule.

·  If allowed by NYS, all K-12 students will be able to choose remote learning only.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is expected to provide further guidance during the first week of August. The District’s reopening plan is flexible in nature so that we can adjust to an ever changing situation.

In an effort to better inform and educate our community, the District is planning three presentations next week.  Specifically, on Wednesday, links to recorded presentations from the high school, middle school, and elementary school administration will be provided.  These presentations will be building and level specific.  The presentations will aim to address questions and comments regarding the district’s reopening plan that have been or will be submitted to the DIstrict via the email address dedicated to the reopening. Please email your questions or comments to reopen@apcsd.org before the end of the day on Monday as the presentations will be communicated mid-week.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we strive to meet the needs of and create opportunities for every student every day.
