  7. Kindergarten Schedule Update

The Averill Park Central School District has decided that incoming Kindergarten students will begin the upcoming school year virtually from September 9-11. The first day of in-person instruction for Kindergarten will now be Monday, September 14.

This phase in a child’s life is very important and helps set up students for success for the rest of their school years. Orientation typically involves in-person visits that are used to connect young learners and their families with their schools prior to the first day.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult to provide this type of orientation, but we want to make sure that our newest students have the best experience possible for this huge transition in their young lives. Teachers will use these first three days of school for individual parent/student conferences and will also conduct virtual lessons.

Our Kindergarten teachers are already busy planning for this change. They are creating a plan for their in-person parent/student meetings, which will be communicated directly with families soon. Teachers are also planning activities to get to know their new students and are working on lesson plans for virtual instruction.

Please note that there are no changes being made to the current schedule for students in grades 1-12. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal.
