  7. Large Student Gatherings

Dear Averill Park CSD Community,

It has come to our attention that recently large groups of students may have been gathering outside of school.

Over the past few months, we have placed a strong emphasis on social distancing, proper mask wearing, and healthy hygiene in an effort to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep our students and staff members safe.

Large gatherings outside of school can disrupt our efforts to safely have our school buildings remain open throughout the 2020-2021 academic year.

Coronavirus cases are on the rise across the country with 37 states seeing increases in positive cases over the past week. In New York, certain areas have been deemed hot spots and schools, restaurants and gyms have once again been closed. In each of those hot spots, large gatherings acted as super spreader events which caused a swing in the trajectory of the virus. We do not want to see this happen in our Averill Park community.

We have been encouraged and proud of the way our students have conducted themselves throughout these challenging and difficult times. Now is not the time to become complacent. Conversely, we must remain vigilant and continue to act in a responsible, community-centered manner. After all, perhaps now more than ever, we are in this together and must remain Warrior Strong.

Sincerely,

Dr. James Franchini
Superintendent of Schools
