  7. COVID Cases at AMS,...

Averill Park CSD Community,

Over the weekend we received confirmation that there are two new positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in our school district, one at Algonquin Middle School and one at the High School.

At AMS, the individual was last in the building on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The maintenance department will be conducting a deep cleaning and disinfecting of all impacted spaces prior to classes resuming on Monday.

The District has been in contact with the Rensselaer County Department of Health regarding these new confirmed cases. Contact tracing is underway to identify additional individuals who may need to quarantine. Calls to those who are impacted will likely be made by the District tomorrow, Monday, November 16. This positive case directly impacts Cohort 1 (last names A-K) which attends virtually tomorrow. As a result, Cohort 2 (last names L-Z), which is in-person tomorrow, will not be exposed while the contact tracing is conducted.

COVID-19 cases continue to rise both locally and nationally. We understand that this is a stressful time for many of our students, staff members and families. We encourage everyone to continue to practice healthy hygiene, mask wearing and social distancing to help prevent the spread.

While we understand that you would like additional details, we are not permitted by privacy laws to identify students or staff members involved. We have provided as much information as possible. Anyone with questions and/or who needs to report a COVID-19 related health issue should contact the District’s COVID-19 resource person via the dedicated email address (COVIDreporting@apcsd.org).
