Dear APCSD Families,
As the Averill Park Central School District Special Education Department prepares for annual reviews for our students, we wanted to keep you updated on modifications to our self-contained elementary special education programs that are scheduled to begin at the start of the 2021-22 school year.
- Ms. LaLiberte’s 12:1:1 program will be moving from Miller Hill-Sand Lake Elementary School to West Sand Lake Elementary School to allow students to stay in one building for their entire elementary school career.
- All of our 15:1 special classes will be consolidated and held at Miller Hill-Sand Lake Elementary School. This will allow us to offer 15:1 classes in all grade levels to all elementary students requiring the service.
- Students will continue to have access to all of their programs and services at West Sand Lake Elementary School.
- We will be hosting two virtual parent informational sessions to discuss these modifications and what impact, if any, they will have on programs. There will be time for a Question-and-Answer session at the end. An invitation will be sent to affected families.
Please note that these changes will require students in those programs to be getting services in a different elementary school than where they currently attend. However, we believe that this one-time change in location will ultimately benefit your child.
