Algonquin Middle School’s Kiwanis Builders Club hosted Isabella Sementilli, author of The Short Story of One Tough Cookie, virtually this week.
Isabella shared her story of how a bully changed her life forever. In 5th grade, she suffered a concussion, fractured a tailbone, and had neck and back injuries when a bully yanked a chair out from underneath her. The effects of the concussion left her with a rare and debilitating headache disorder.
Isabella, now age 18, is an advocate for, and donates to, anti-bullying and brain injury awareness organizations throughout the country. She has received the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Agent of Change Award from NYSMCJ for promoting peace and non-violence. She also received the Neil and Jane Golub Making a Difference Award from the Anti-Defamation League of NY. Isabella was featured in Cricket Media FACES Magazine, “Kids Changing the World: One Cookie at a Time.” She recently was awarded with the Acts of Kindness Heroes Award and The Hearts and Heroes Award.
Isabella is on a mission to spread her message “Be nice. Be kind. Share a smile.” Check out her website for more information: https://www.isabellasementilli.com/
