  7. Residents Support 2021-2022 School...

On Tuesday, May 18, residents of the Averill Park Central School District supported a $61.4 million budget for the 2021-22 school year by a vote of 576 (yes) to 299 (no), as well as a bus and equipment purchase proposition.

The budget of $61,456,847 calls for an increase of 0.75% from the 2020-21 school year and a tax levy increase of 0.95 percent, which is under the tax cap.

The approval of the bus and equipment proposition, by a 578 (yes) to 297 (no) vote, allows the district to purchase nine (9) new school buses and one (1) Plow/Rack Truck as part of the district’s long-term bus replacement plan. The district is eligible to receive approximately 72 percent reimbursement from the state on the purchase of these buses.

“Thank you to the Averill Park CSD residents who voted on the 2021-22 school budget. Our staff and Board of Education worked hard on developing a budget that is fiscally responsible as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.” Superintendent Dr. James Franchini said. “This budget will allow us to continue to fulfill our mission of meeting the needs of and providing opportunities for every student every day.”

Averill Park residents also voted for two open seats on the Board of Education. Elected to the Board are Jessica Zweig with 681 votes and Jackie Geraci with 625.

Thank you to everyone who voted and thank you to those who worked long hours to ensure an accurate result.
