Katelyn Baker (Dobert) joins Algonquin Middle School this year as its new Guidance Counselor.
“I am a school counselor because of my amazing experience with the school counselors at APHS,” she said. “They were there for me when I was in need of support, and helped me become the successful person that I am today. Mrs. Stone, in particular, inspired me to go into school counseling, and I knew that I wanted to be there for youth in the same way. I always knew that I wanted to be back in the Averill Park school district, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity.”
Mrs. Baker attended Western New England University for Psychology and Social Work before pursuing her certification in Professional School Counseling at Sage College graduate school. She previously worked with students in the Hoosick Falls Central School District for six years.
“Some of my favorite things about working in schools are supporting students socially and emotionally, and also having fun,” she said. “It’s really special to see students grow mentally and physically, and go on that journey with them.”
Fun Fact! When Mrs. Baker was in college, she studied abroad in Florence, Italy. She has also traveled to Greece, Ireland and Spain, and hopes to travel to Europe again with her family.
