  7. Kiwanis Club Partners With...

In the spring of 2020, the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake approved a school-based fundraiser proposed by former Lt. Governor and the Builders Club and K-Kids Advisor, Patricia Lane, to support the Ronald McDonald House in Albany.

To start the mission, the Club solicited the assistance of numerous school staff and the club’s SLPs students, parents and other interested citizens to join the fundraising effort.

The COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench into fundraising activities. Pat Lane continued efforts to raise community awareness for the project, checking in regularly with members, school personnel, and met virtually and via social media to gather pull tabs. Mrs. Lane and Club members regularly inspected picked-up pull tabs and removed any that were not made of pure aluminum.

Local Girl Scouts, the VFW, churches and the Sand Lake Town Hall all chipped in and thousands of pull tabs were collected by school children throughout the pandemic.

On June 8, Kiwanis Club members deposited more than a quarter ton of pull tabs to the local recycling  company recommended by the Ronald McDonald House for their fundraising projects.

The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake is proud of what the school children have accomplished and they are delighted that the school district has asked them to continue the project into the 2021-22 school year.
