  7. Updates Regarding Test Kits,...

Averill Park CSD Families,

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Averill Park Central School District has placed a high priority on the health and safety of our students and staff members. To that end, the District has followed all Federal and State mandates related to health and safety protocols, and will continue to do so.

As we prepare to head into the Winter Break, we have a few updates regarding the pandemic.

TEST KITS

State-provided COVID-19 at-home test kits will be sent home in backpacks with all students prior to break, unless the parent/guardian has declined. If you choose to opt out of receiving test kits, please fill out this form. If you already filled out this form, there is no need to respond again. The Governor has stated her intention is for families to use the test kits on Sunday, February 27, and again three days later on Wednesday, March 2. Each student will receive two boxes containing two test kits apiece. If a student tests positive, please contact your school nurse and follow isolation guidelines. Results do not need to be submitted unless a student tests positive.

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT FOR COVID POSITIVE STUDENTS

During the spike of positive cases within our school community, the District offered COVID-positive students instructional support with tutoring for grades K-5 and virtual instruction in grades 6-12. As positive cases have continued to decline over the past month, the District has made the decision to discontinue this practice. The last day for instructional support will be Friday, February 18. Students who are out sick with COVID-19 will be treated the same as students who are out with other illnesses such as the flu.
