  7. Liam Rounds Wins National...

Averill Park High School senior Liam Rounds received a National Gold Key award for his AP Studio portfolio titled “The Dissolution of American Patriotism.” This work is an evocative expiration of what it feels like to be a progressive young American. The Scholastics committee looks for work that exemplifies the Awards’ core values: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of personal voice or vision.

More than 300,000 students from all over the country submit work annually to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Since 1923 the Scholastic Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists when they were teenagers. Liam is now among the esteemed group of alumni which include Andy Warhol, Tschabalala Self, Charles White, and Kay Walkingstick.

Only works and portfolios that earn a regional Gold Key will go on to be adjudicated on the national level to potentially earn a Gold Medal. Should Liams’ portfolio be selected, it would be among only 16 in the country to earn a $10,000 scholarship along with several scholarship and exhibition opportunities. Silver Medal With Distinction awards will provide $1,000 Scholarships to an additional 30 portfolios. National Medalists will be announced on March 23, 2022. Congratulations Liam!
