CORRECTION: Alexandra Gaboury and Francesca Morone are Co-Valedictorians this year, having the exact same GPA.

Averill Park High School students Alexandra Gaboury and Francesca Morone, along with teachers Marsha Gregory and Sarah Christy have been honored as 2022 Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) Scholars Recognition recipients!

The annual recognition salutes the highest achieving high school seniors in the Capital Region and the teachers who inspire them.

Alexandra Gaboury is naturally curious about the world as well as empathetic toward those around her. She has logged 184 volunteer hours helping in numerous clubs and activities such as Key Club, World of Difference, the Sand Lake Library and local elementary schools. She is ranked at the top of her senior class, tied for the number one spot with Francesca Morone, and plans to study English and Psychology at SUNY Geneseo in the fall.

CASDA grants each student honoree the opportunity to nominate a teacher who has had a significant influence on their education. Alexandra explained that she nominated Mrs. Gregory because she “has been a teacher, mentor, and safe haven. Her encouragement and guidance has shaped me into the academic and person I am today.”

Francesca Morone is ranked at the top of her class, tied for the number one spot with Alexandra Gaboury, and is excited to pursue a major in math at Union College. Francesca is passionate about music and sports, specifically soccer and track and field. She is often volunteering her free time to teach in local youth soccer programs and sings in the Treble Choir where she is asked to sing the National Anthem for local sporting events. She plans to continue with soccer at Union College.

Francesca nominated Mrs.Christy, stating that her “encouragement, compassion and determination is incredibly inspiring. She has expanded my love for music and gave me a home within the high school.”
