GETTING TO KNOW YOU SLIDES

This year we’ve asked all of our Grades 6-8 students to create a Google Slide to introduce themselves to their teachers. On their Google Slide, students are able to format it to their liking, add images, text, inspirational quotes, etc and have it generally reflect their personality and interests. These slides will be shared with the teaching team so we can all get to know our students better as we start the year. Please consider asking your child about their slide and encourage them to share it with you, as well.

WARRIOR WEDNESDAY THEME: SELF AWARENESS

This competency is all about helping students get to know themselves and includes things such as their likes and dislikes, strengths and challenges, feelings and opinions, and how our mind influences our emotions, words and behaviors. When we reflect on how we learn, we become better learners. For example, some people think and process information best in a quiet library; others focus better surrounded by familiar noise or music.

Additional information about how Averill Park will be addressing this theme and how you can support your child at home can be found here.

On Warrior Wednesdays at AMS, students and staff are encouraged to wear blue and gold.

We look forward to our first Warrior Wednesday of the year coming up on Wednesday, September 21.

LATE BUS SERVICE – BEGINS 9/20

The school district will begin offering late bus service for interested students on Tuesday, September 20.

Late buses run on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students can stay after for clubs or to work with teachers.

Students interested in taking the late bus home need to complete the Late Bus Google Form located on their Team Landing Page by 9 am that morning.

Late buses typically leave AMS at approximately 4:15 pm each day. There are no exceptions made by the Transportation Department to the 9 am deadline.

More information about Late Bus Service will be shared with students in a video next week.

Please click here to see the slides from the upcoming video for additional information.

NEWS10 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ACTIVITY

Over the next several weeks, students and staff members will be participating in News10 ABC’s Pledge of Allegiance program. A recording of our school community saying the Pledge of Allegiance will then be broadcast at a later date during News10’s morning news show sometime later in the fall. Students who are uncomfortable being included in the filming will not be required to participate. On their grade level Pledge of Allegiance day we encourage students to wear red, white and blue. Our tentative dates for the recording are: Grade 7 – 9/20, Grade 8 – 10/4, Grade 6 – 10/14. This was a great activity in 2019 and we look forward to the upcoming Pledge recordings.
