  7. Pickleball Courts Coming to...

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and a brand-new basketball court with lines for Pickleball is coming to Poestenkill Elementary School (PES).

The Town of Poestenkill has secured donations for materials to create the new court at zero impact to taxpayers. During the day, students will utilize the new court. When school is not in session, on evenings, and on weekends, the community will be allowed to use the space.

Ground was broken recently on the construction of the new court, which will be located near the playground on Veterans Street where a kickball field previously stood. A new kickball field will be created elsewhere on campus. At one time, PES had a basketball court, but it was turned into a parking lot in order to accommodate an increased need for off street parking.

“While Pickleball is exploding in popularity, there are few places that community members can get together to play games,” PES Principal Joshua Gela said. “We are pleased to be able to bring this new benefit to our students and the community. We always talk about the importance of being physically active, and that doesn’t end once our students have graduated. Having a space like this is beneficial to everyone in our community. We thank the Town of Poestenkill for their generous support and effort in bringing this project to life.”

Thank you to all those involved in the planning and construction, including Chip Kronau, Scott Polaro, Brod Paving, the Clemente family, Waits Garage and family, Valente Lumber, Tiffany Buker (Poestenkill Town Manager), and DJ Goyer (Highway Superintendent).
