The Averill Park Central School District’s Board of Education is considering adopting a resolution allowing a partial school property tax exemption for qualified volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers who serve and are homeowners in the school district.
A public hearing regarding the exemption will be held before the District’s next BOE meeting on Monday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the LGI at Averill Park High School.
In addition to discussing whether the District should adopt the exemption, the number of years of service required and percentage of the tax exemption will also be discussed. The opportunity for this tax exemption is the result of a state law recently signed by Governor Kathy Hochul. The exemption is aimed at helping communities attract and retain volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.
