During its meeting on November 13, 2023, the Averill Park Central School District’s Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution allowing a partial school property tax exemption for qualified volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers who are homeowners in the school district.
“We, as a board, thank our dedicated volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers for their service to our school community by providing this tax exemption,” BOE President Samantha Hicks said. “By recognizing them in this way, we hope that this may create another incentive that will assist in recruitment and retention for all of our local fire departments.”
The opportunity for this tax exemption is the result of a state law recently signed by Governor Kathy Hochul.
