Please be aware that the APHS campus will be closed to students after 12 p.m. on February 22, 2024 as law enforcement officials will be on campus to remove and dispose of a chemical that has become unstable in a chemical storage room at Averill Park High School. This chemical was discovered during a scheduled annual inspection of the chemical storage room.
The District is working closely with the Questar III BOCES Health and Safety team, which has established a safety protocol for removing this chemical. Questar has helped other school districts in Rensselaer County, including Averill Park, manage similar situations in the past. In December, the District had an unstable chemical removed that was discovered during the clean up of a spilled chemical.
