  7. Letter to Incoming Middle...

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The end of the school year is just around the corner and your son or daughter will soon be entering sixth grade at Algonquin Middle School. You and your child probably have many questions concerning the Algonquin program. In order to answer these questions, we have planned an orientation program for all fifth grade students and their parents/guardians.

The orientation program will include:

Visit to Algonquin: Fifth grade students will visit Algonquin and meet with me for a presentation about our school program. Students will also tour the building and meet with current sixth graders and staff to discuss classes and activities. Mr. Herbs and Mrs. Valentine, our Algonquin school counselors, will meet with all fifth grade students during this trip. Each student will be given an orientation pamphlet about Algonquin, which I encourage you to review with your child.

The schedule for these visits are as follows:

May 13: West Sand Lake
May 14: Poestenkill
May 20: Miller Hill-Sand Lake

Band, Orchestra & Chorus Concert: Fifth grade students from across the district will attend an exciting concert offered by our Grades 7 & 8 Band, Orchestra and Chorus programs on Tuesday, May 21st at 10am. During this concert our teachers and older students will showcase the high-quality of our instrumental and choral programs in hopes that your child will consider joining Chorus and Band or Orchestra next year.

AMS Parents’ Night: Our Parents’ Night will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the Algonquin program first hand. Parents will hear a presentation from myself and will participate in a student-led tour of the building. This year’s program will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m.

I look forward to meeting you and your child during our orientation activities. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the orientation program or your child’s transition to Algonquin, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Messia Principal
