POSITION AVAILABLE: Assistant Director of Special Education and Support Services
Reports to the Director of Special Education and Support Services
Averill Park Central Office
Probationary (10-month position plus 15 days in the summer)
Anticipated to begin July 1, 2019

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Assistant Director of Special Education and Support Services will work in a collaborative manner with all administrators to ensure appropriate programming and services are provided to students/preschool children. The Assistant will ensure that all federal and state mandates pertaining to Special Education and RTI/AIS are followed in an efficient and productive manner.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess or be eligible for the NYS Certification of SDL or SDA

DUTIES:
• Oversight and coordination of Special Education evaluations & services for children age 3&4 (preschool) and school aged in grades K-5
• CPSE & CSE K-5 chairperson
• Oversight of 504 committee at the elementary level
• Develop & implement, or support existing, RTI systems of supports for students K-12
• Oversight of evaluation, identification and differentiation of instruction for high ability learners
• Shared responsibilities with Director & building principals for evaluation of teachers, service providers, teaching assistants and paraprofessionals
• Supervise the elementary curriculum team and coordinate with the curriculum leader(s)
• Collaborate with the elementary principals to enhance the transition to school, including, but limited to, working with parents & providers
• In conjunction with the Director, responsible for:
o Budget recommendations and expenditure control for assigned groups
o Compiling and maintaining grants to state and federal agencies including IDEA, Title 1 & 4
o Compiling and maintaining reports and records including PD reports and data warehouse information
o Planning, implementing and supporting professional development directed at meeting the needs of diverse learners
o Collaborating with HR department on hiring and retention of staff
o Ensure compliance of McKinney-Vento regulations, which includes working with district coordinator, administrators, supervisors and staff
o Oversight of Rensselaer County Mental Health Satellite Clinic
• Coordinate and provide oversight of the Home to School Outreach service

SALARY: As per APAA Agreement
