Position Available: Head School Bus Driver position
7.5 hours per day, 10 months per year plus summer hours as scheduled by supervisor
between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Salary: Salary Range $45,000-$50,000 based on experience. Managerial/Confidential contract.

Qualifications:
• Must have 19-A and School Bus Driver Instructor Certification or willingness and ability to obtain such certifications
• Eligibility from Civil Service Head Bus Driver list or, if no list exists, appointment contingent upon taking and passing Head Bus Driver exam
• Strong team skills
• Cooperative and flexible nature
• Ability to problem solve and mediate issues

Duties: Assist the Supervisor of Transportation with bus driver scheduling, bus routing, budgeting, responding to parents, staff evaluations, 19A training, maintain all related 19A files and school bus driver training. May also be assigned other tasks as needed.

HEAD SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Duties involve the responsibility for the supervision and operation of the School District Transportation Program. The work is performed under the direction supervision of the Supervisor of Transportation, and direct supervision is exercised over all subordinate school bus driver positions. A Head School Bus Driver also performs related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Prepares school bus routs for all schools in the district;
Prepares and revised school bus schedules;
Assists in the recruiting, interviewing, and training of school bus drivers;
Observes school bus drivers in the performance of their duties;
Participates in solving disciplinary matters;
Assigns substitute school bus drivers as needed;
Investigates minor accidents and completes required reports;
Supervises the dissemination of safety information for all school bus drivers;
Assumes the overall supervisory responsibilities of the Transportation Supervisor in his/her absence.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the operation of school buses; thorough knowledge of safety procedures and traffic laws and regulations; good knowledge of the geography of the district; working knowledge of standard automotive repair methods; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to keep simples records; dependability; initiative; good judgment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of supervisory experience in the operation of school buses.
